Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic Senior Controller to oversee the financial management for a respected housing authority that serves the community. This key position ensures financial integrity and stability by developing policies, internal controls, and accurate financial reporting for the organization.  You will directly support strategic decision-making by providing timely, clear financial data. The ideal candidate will have extensive accounting experience, including managing multiple fund programs and a strong commitment to the community's well-being.

Compensation and Benefits:

What You'll Do:
  • Develop and implement financial policies, internal controls, and budgeting systems to protect the assets of the housing authority.
  • Lead financial planning and budgeting functions, ensuring alignment with the strategic goals of the organization.
  • Oversee the preparation of budgets for funding grants and the HUD Indian Housing Plan.
  • Coordinate audits, ensuring compliance with GAAP and GASB standards.
  • Manage financial statements and reports, providing management and the Board of Commissioners actionable insights.
  • Supervise accounting staff and provide training on financial controls and best practices.
  • Maintain effective banking relationships and manage risk, including insurance coverage for assets and employees.
  • Oversee HR services related to employee benefits and deductions.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local financial regulations.
  • Contribute to the organization's long-term strategic planning, ensuring alignment with financial goals.
Who We Are Looking For:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 7 years of progressive experience in accounting, including centralized accounting for multiple programs/accounts and staff management.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local financial regulations.
  • Experience with budgeting, financial reporting, and audits.
  • Ability to analyze complex financial data and make sound recommendations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A strong understanding of accounting principles, government regulations, and internal controls.
  • Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines.
  • Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role is essential.
