Job Description
We are excited to partner with this family-friendly, dynamic organization dedicated to supporting Northern New Mexico communities through various initiatives and programs. We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Accountant to join their team and assist the Vice President of Finance and Operations in managing financial data and ensuring compliance with GAAP accounting processes.
Compensation:
- $64-75K, depending on education and work experience.
- Comprehensive benefits package including medical and dental insurance.
- 401k plan with 5% employer contribution
- Paid vacation and 14 paid holidays annually.
- Hybrid work schedule with 9-hour days and every other Friday off.
- Extended Sabbatical leave program offering 8 consecutive weeks off every 7 years.
- Hybrid work schedule (2 days in Espanola, 3 telework)
Key Responsibilities:
- Document financial transactions by entering data into financial software, covering accounts receivable, investments, and acting as backup for accounts payable, credit cards, and payroll.
- Maintain detailed records of pledges and donations in the donor database, preparing donor acknowledgements and annual tax letters.
- Ensure accurate and efficient accounting operations by documenting and improving internal policies and procedures.
- Create monthly grant budget reports for various programs and assist with other requested reports.
- Assist with monthly closing activities, including preparing quarterly board financial packets and annual reports.
- Develop, maintain, and analyze program-specific grant budgets, including preparing budget amendments and grantor reports.
- Collaborate with staff to ensure timely and accurate submission of credit card charges and reconciliation of statements.
- Process bi-weekly payroll, ensuring data accuracy and reviewing payroll tax, insurance, and 401k reporting.
- Conduct surveys, data analysis, cost-benefit analyses, variance analysis, and revenue forecasting to support programs.
- Cross-train with other accounting and HR team members and provide backup support for payroll systems.
Desired Profile:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- Minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible accounting experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and experience with financial analysis, budgeting, and variance analysis.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to confidently present to senior management.
- Outstanding organizational and leadership skills, with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Experience with CRM systems preferred
- Valid and unrestricted NM driver’s license.
- Sense of humor and a strong work ethic.
